Home Screen Widget

Your day-ahead at a glance. No app launch needed.

Add a Kepthouse widget to your Android home screen and see upcoming tasks, warranties, payments, asset reminders, bin collections and plant care without opening the app. Tap any row to jump straight to the item. Configurable per widget, so you can place several side by side for different purposes (one for tasks, one for bins, one for plants).

The problem

  • You open the app to check one thing and end up scrolling three screens
  • You forget there was a task due today because you didn't open the app
  • You want bin days visible without unlocking anything
  • One widget tries to cram everything in and ends up useless

The fix

A dedicated widget that shows whatever you want. Toggle sections on or off per widget. Card or compact view. Adjustable font and colour. Place several widgets for different needs: a small bin-days-only one on the lock screen, a larger tasks + payments one on the home screen.

What it shows

Nine things, one widget. Pick the ones you want.

  • Tasks — upcoming maintenance due in the next 30 days
  • Warranties — expiring in the next 90 days
  • Payments — subscriptions and recurring bills due in the next 30 days (optional monthly total)
  • Vehicles — MOT, tax, insurance, service dates
  • Pets — vaccinations, vet visits
  • Properties — EPC, gas safety, EICR, insurance
  • Bins — next collection per bin type per property
  • Plants — next care action per plant (water / prune / feed / mulch)

Every row is sorted by due date. The item count slider (3–10) caps how many rows show at once. Tap any row to jump to its detail screen.

Configuration

Per-widget toggles, not all-or-nothing

  • Every section has its own toggle; turn off anything you don't want
  • Two view modes: Card (larger, coloured accent bars) and Compact (one line per row, maximum density)
  • Font size slider (11–18sp) for card mode, so you can tune for vision and widget size
  • Show up to 3–10 items at once
  • Background colour presets: Auto (system), Dark, Light, Green, Navy, Purple, with adjustable transparency
  • Monthly payment total toggleable separately from the Payments rows
Place Several

Different widgets for different purposes

Because every widget holds its own config, you can place several with completely different content:

  • A small bin-only widget on the lock screen
  • A tasks + payments widget on the main home screen
  • A plant care widget on the gardening page of your launcher
  • A compact "what's due this week" widget in a corner

Remove a widget and its config goes with it. Place a new one and start fresh. The background worker that keeps widgets fresh automatically stops when the last widget is removed, and restarts when a new one is placed.

FAQ

How often does the widget refresh?

Every 30 minutes in the background, plus immediately whenever you save or mark something done in the app. When you tap “Watered today” on a plant the widget updates within a second, not on the next half-hour tick.

Is it free?

Yes. The widget is free and unrestricted for all users.

Does it use battery?

Minimal. The refresh fetches are cached aggressively and the background worker stops entirely when you remove your last widget from the home screen. It restarts automatically when you place a new one.

Can I add it to the lock screen?

Depends on your Android version and launcher. Android 12+ supports widgets on the lock screen on many devices; Android 13+ has it on Pixel / Samsung. Place via long-press → widgets picker as normal.

What if I only have a few plants? Will the widget be sparse?

The widget only shows items that actually have upcoming dates. If you have no plants with care reminders enabled, no plant rows appear; the slots go to your other sections.

Add a widget to your home screen
