Bin Day Reminders for Every UK Council

It is a uniquely British frustration. You hear the lorry rumbling down the street, look out the window, and realise your bins are still sitting in the garden. Was it recycling this week? Or general waste? You cannot remember which bin to put out, and now it is too late.

Starting today, Kepthouse can tell you exactly which bins to put out — and remind you the evening before collection. It works as a bin day reminder for all 334 UK councils, built right into the app you already use to manage your home.

How it works

Bin day reminders are attached to your properties. Open any property in Kepthouse, and you will see a new toggle to enable bin collection tracking. Turn it on, and the app automatically detects your council and fetches your collection schedule — no manual setup required.

The bin collection section on a property edit screen

Behind the scenes, Kepthouse uses your property's address to look up the coordinates, find the matching council, and pull your bin collection schedule directly from your local authority's data. It covers all 334 UK councils — so wherever you are in England, Scotland, or Wales, the app knows which bin day is next.

Reminders the evening before

The real value is in the bin collection reminders. Kepthouse sends you a push notification the evening before each collection — by default at 7pm, but you can change the time in Settings. The notification tells you exactly which bins to put out tonight, so you never have to wonder which bin day it is.

At a glance on your dashboard

Every property with bin tracking enabled gets its own card in the Bin Days section on your dashboard. Each card shows the next collection date for each bin type, colour-coded so you can see at a glance what is coming up:

  • Red — collection today, or tomorrow if it's already evening
  • Orange — collection is tomorrow
  • Green — two or more days away

Bin days on the dashboard — one card per property, colour-coded dates

If you have multiple properties — maybe you are a landlord, or you keep an eye on a family member's place — each one gets its own card. If you only have one property, it shows the schedule without the address heading to keep things clean.

Completely automatic

Once you turn on the toggle, everything else happens in the background:

  • Your council is detected from your property's address
  • The collection schedule is fetched automatically
  • A daily background refresh keeps the schedule up to date
  • Reminders are sent the evening before each collection

If your council changes its schedule, Kepthouse picks it up. If a collection date falls on a bank holiday and gets moved, the updated date appears automatically.

Completely free

Bin day reminders are not a Premium feature. They are available to everyone, for every property, at no cost. We think this is the kind of everyday utility that should just work, and we hope it is the feature that makes Kepthouse feel indispensable on bin night.

Settings

You will find a new Bin day reminders section in Settings. From there you can toggle reminders globally, change the notification time, and see how many properties have bin tracking enabled. Turning the global toggle off hides the dashboard section and stops all notifications — the per-property schedules are kept so you can turn it back on without re-fetching.

Frequently asked questions

Which councils are supported?

All 334 UK councils are supported — England, Scotland, and Wales. Your council is detected automatically from your property's address. If your council is not yet covered, you will see a message on the property screen, and support is added as new councils come online.

Is the bin day reminder free?

Yes. Bin day reminders are completely free for all users, for every property. This is not a Premium feature — everyone gets full access to bin collection tracking, dashboard cards, and evening-before notifications at no cost.

How do I set it up?

Open any property in Kepthouse, scroll down to the Bin Collection card, and toggle it on. Your council and collection schedule are detected automatically from your address. There is nothing else to configure — reminders start immediately.

Can I use it for multiple properties?

Yes. Each property gets its own toggle and its own dashboard card. Useful for landlords, or if you keep an eye on a family member's bins.

What time do reminders arrive?

By default, 7:00 PM the evening before collection. You can change the time in Settings > Bin day reminders. The reminder tells you exactly which bin type to put out tonight.

Does it update automatically?

Yes. A background refresh runs daily at 5am to pick up schedule changes, bank holiday adjustments, and any new collection dates from your council.
